Vaccination of girls and boys against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) can prevent infections and related diseases. HPV infections can lead to genital warts, cervical and other forms of cancer. Vaccination should be combined with routine cervical screening. Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan is supporting efforts to extend routine vaccination against human papillomaviruses of girls and boys.
Get vaccinated: get protected
Some countries with high rates of HPV vaccination coverage are reporting reductions in pre-cancers. Routine HPV vaccination is recommended for boys and girls and usually takes place between 9 and 14 years of age, in accordance with national vaccination schedules.
Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan objective: to vaccinate at least 90% of the EU target population of girls and significantly increase the vaccination of boys by 2030.
Addressing misinformation and disinformation
Vaccines against HPV have been safely used for several years. Large-scale studies have demonstrated their effectiveness in preventing infection and following complications for both girls and boys.
